Mixing it up
I began by playing with the exisiting flag, seeing if anything visually interesting could come out of playing with the elements.
Considering that the current Union Jack doesn't incorporate the three countries, a potential way to go could be to ditch the current and design a symbol that represents the three countries.
However this blatantly puts emphasis on England over the other two.
Equality/ Strength
Building from the existing Union Jack I tried to incorporate the three countries into one.
Firstly by making all the lines of equal strength, rather than knocking Ireland back like the previous flag.
Adding overlapping strokes to add strength and unity
Overlapping the strokes in a spiral order looks interesting and also signifies working together and making each other stronger.
This design also applies itself well to pattern
The green which is taken from wales is a bit too vibrant, if a colour could be used that is relevant to wales and also looks good, this would be ideal.
Possibly taking a different shade of green could work.
