Half day brief

For Lizzy Tyrer's 'A Very Alternative Christmas' brief I have produced a Christmas Card illustration based on the song Last Christmas by Wham!.

Brief written by Lizzy

The brief for me, was to illustrate 'Last Christmas' by Wham! I set out to create a kind of cryptic image that the viewer can figure out. The basic idea was a picture of a heart shaped present with a label that said 'Merry Christmas 2012, love from George x" linking to the first line that old George Michael sings, "Last Christmas I gave you my heart."

I started trying to add webs but it looked a bit confusing and halloweeny

I also tried stripping it right back but this was a bit too cryptic and also was moving too far away from illustration

After a brief stinf of trying to draw George Michael as a heart I moved onto a Christmas Card from George idea, rather than a present.

Considering the cards are only going to be A6 I thought that just the bit of writing on a label would be too small to read. Therefore I moved on to drawing a card sent from George Michael a year ago.

Using a half tone pattern to use as a third colour this is the final design I think this is quite visually neat.

After changing the handritten-style typeface to actual handwriting this is the final card:
