Visual Research

The illustrative style used for these posters needed to be similar to the posters I designed at the beginning of the academic year as this is what grabbed Ash’s attention in the first place. However, the colours and content are factors that can be played with. Looking at existing posters, I think that the simpler ones have much more impact; less colours and simple illustration are more satisfying and easier to visually digest.

Something as complex as this would have too much going on, especially if it is part of a set of 3, there would be no clear hierarchy between the posters and would look visually overwhelming.

Simple and bold layouts like this are the cleanest and hardest hitting

I'd like to find a balance between clean vector illustration and warm, hand rendered illustration

The places that are en route through the Tour De France could be used for visual material to include int the posters.

This is a poster I have continuously referred to for inspiration, I think it uses minimum amount of colour to good effect, although quite busy I think that it is interesting and engages the viewer

The Grand Depart

I met with Ash at Belgrave Music Hall to discuss a project that will be displayed at Belgrave and coincides with The Grand Depart at the start of July.

Ash mentioned this Kraftwerk album cover in terms of style

I got in contact with somebody who organises promotion for Belgrave and other Music events around Leeds, I am meeting with them on Wednesday 26th March to discuss the possibility of doing some more posters for future events.

Before the meeting I have been asked to think of some ideas for John Grant and Felice Brothers

Design Ideas Sheets

Elements

I decided to take one idea further to give a better idea of a finished product to take to the meeting.

This idea is based on the song Blackbelt by John grant, particularly the line 'What you've got is a blackbelt in BS'

Post Composition

'What you've got is a blackbelt in BS' - The idea is that the character in the poster has a blackbelt but the bricks that he's breaking already have cracks in them so its all a lie.

Back of Pack Development

 Packaging

This is a rough mock up of the packaging format. The card will fold over on itself to conceal the acetate strip and the tucked in parts of the tea towel, this will also avoid any complications that occur with double sided printing.
