x4 Routes: Aesthetic Research / Inspiration

Combat Drowsiness

This route is focussed on combatting drowsiness in a straightforward and to-the-point way. This would include a strong tone of voice with bold statements. Adapting the idea of camouflage could be used to create interesting aesthetics that stand out on a shelf.

Interesting pack format
Gauthier : Lovely Package . Curating the very best packaging design.

Camouflage could feed into a pattern to be used on pack

Awaken Senses

The brief states that Purdey's is well being for mind body and soul, however the current pack doesn't communicate this at all. By looking into 'Zen' and Buddhism a more natural and balanced outcome could be produced

Natural Lift

Natural Elixir

Building on Purdey's 'Elixir Vitae' line the packaging could emphasise Elixir/ Potion to create something visually interesting

Purdeys Brief

Key Points

'Taste like no other' - a current tag line, although it is same-y and unconvincing.

'Discover it' - Purdeys isn't marketed a lot therefore it is something you discover by chance and intrigue. The brand wants to remain quite small and personal.

The packaging for Purdeys rejuvenate must stay opaque due to the ingredients being light sensitive

Audience- described as 'active, on-the-go, looking for a pleasant lift.

People that pursue a relatively healthy lifestyle but aren;t committed to regular exercise and diet.

Problems

The drink isn't bad for you, however the grey packaging makes it come across as chemical and unnatural, and also sugary.

I think that the drink is being devalued by being sold in Poundland, and it's automatically assumed that it is cheap and fizzy. A re-design needs to shake this association

The design is generally too mechanical and I don't think that the illustrations add anything to the visual appeal of the product

An audience needs to be targeted more clearly as at the moment it is unclear, by the packaging, who this drink is for.

First batch of poems and doodles

All of these are scanned straight from the notebook and will be edited and moved around before being put into a book.

Each poem is accompanied with an illustration of the poem

We need to evaluate the handwriting we feature to ensure that it is legible

We will include mistakes as this gives it a completely human and hand crafted aesthetic.

We could experiment with texture and scanning pages in so that they look like they are stuck on the page of the book

Visual Research

The publication needs to have a hand drawn/ d.i.y aesthetic.

Adding in different colours of stock gives each page an interesting quality and will allow us to print black and white without it seeming plain and boring.

Simple ways of binding we could utilise could be: sewing, elastic band, paper clips etc.

We could use a scanner for some pages to give a d.i.y aesthetic

I think producing the book as cheaply as possible will add to the

Crude and silly drawings will add to the book, the finished product should be fun and easy to flick through with new things to find on second/ third read throughs.

A simple stitch bind would add a handmade and personal touch to each edition.
